Each sunrise is another opportunity to thank God for the gift of life.
A greeting full of good energy for all my friends. Today I come happily to work, because it turns out that yesterday was a very special day for me, it was my birthday and although I was locked up and I could only share my birthday through social networks, I enjoyed it and I laughed a lot.
It is well said that "If life gives you lemons, learn how to make lemonade", today we have to be locked up for our own good, so as not to repeat the same stories of other countries that have fallen into misfortune because of this disease that is afflicting all of humanity.
It is impossible not to complain, it seems that talking is the only thing that keeps us calm, expressing all that keeps us in agony, but as far as it is good to do this. Complaining is an expression of dissatisfaction when something doesn't go our way. Many of us look for someone to blame for what's happening to us, we blame China, we blame Maduro, we blame God, but is this really true? or am I the one who brings bad things into my life?
I imagine for a moment the Jehovah's Witnesses coming to my door to tell me that this is written in the Bible. I imagine the therapists, psychologists or philosophers interacting with each other saying that it is only our responsibility. I have also seen how people get together to talk about the Coronavirus and the crisis it has generated, we complain a lot and that definitely doesn't help at all.
I'm more of a mind puller with everything positive that can come into my life. As another saying in my village says "to add salt to the wound"
One month at home
My two children are teenagers and they didn't understand what was going on. They are of the generation that doesn't like to see the news, and that bothers them. My son Israel wanted to go to the beach as soon as they suspended classes and work activities. I think he was the one who made it hardest for me at first, he was very restless, but between his father and me we sat down to talk to him and he finally came to his senses.
The first days we took advantage and cleaned the house thoroughly, we also cleaned the building among all the neighbors and the atmosphere felt cleaner, comfortable, pleasant.
My husband is the one who goes shopping once or twice a week. We try to be as calm and organized as possible; the main thing is to study in the mornings or learn something new. The housework is shared, one day I cook, another day my husband or my older son. Israel and Fabián like music, so they have been practicing the guitar and singing a bit more.
My eldest son is the cartoonist of the house, he has been creating some very nice drawings lately. Since he started college and does part-time work, he didn't have time to practice his favorite hobby - drawing.
In the afternoons it is time for recreation, some listen to music, sing, see the phone, play play station, or play board games with their dad, I like to see them interact and share with their dad.
I have not felt much difference in my day to day life, I like to be at home, to have everything in order. I don't really like to go out or to be in other houses. I think time is very short and I try to take time out of my day so that I can do everything I like. From 5 in the morning I get up and prepare my coffee to sit down to do my daily publication, then I make breakfast and run to my sewing workshop to do my manual work, in the afternoons I watch television or rehearse I sing with my son Fabian, I love in the afternoons to prepare a nice snack for them, either cake or ice cream, something I invent to keep them entertained always.
The situation in Venezuela?
The situation in my country is no different from that in other countries, since the first case of coronavirus or covid-19 was diagnosed, a quarantine was imposed by the central government; as of Friday, 3 April, the figures were 153 confirmed cases and 7 deaths due to the disease.
Many do not want to comply with the regulations and others try to do so; the establishments are only open for half a day and people try to buy from the Chinese as they can get things a little cheaper.
Added to all this that is happening with this terrible disease, we Venezuelans must add one more ingredient to our daily political life, it turns out that a few days ago a reward was offered for anyone who gave information that could lead to the capture of Nicolas Maduro, other members of the executive cabinet and others belonging to the public authorities of this country; that shook the political landscape again and people automatically began to make additional purchases.
Gasoline is the main problem right now, the lines are endless, miles long I would say. Everyone is waiting anxiously for the gondola to arrive with the fuel to be able to refuel. Without the fuel everything is more problematic, you begin to feel the shortage of some products such as vegetables, since the people of the countryside do not have how to get their crops out for lack of gasoline and in other cases the increase of what is coming as for example the meat which doubled its price.
Video taken by my husband on Friday when he went to try to get gas
I wish I could tell you this story differently, but it is reality and you asked us to tell the truth so that others would know what is really going on. I'm an optimist and I think we'll soon get out of this nightmare.
Someday someone will tell this story of what 2020 brought us and how we overcame all these adversities. For now we have seen more family unity, solidarity, brotherhood, conscience, now we value things more, life, doctors, nurses. From all this we must draw the good and discard the pessimism, the worries, the complaining.
