I think this is a great initiative by Team Ineos who are hosting an event on Zwift. Zwift is a realistic cycling app that users can link to in a real time scenario and using their equipment at home can join in.
Whilst everyone is in lock down I can see the popularity of this app going ballistic and through the roof. I believe this is the only real esports event out there currently as it involves exercise and not sitting on your backside doing nothing. This app makes you sweat as you have to pedal as though you are racing in real life.
Starting on the 15th April Geraint Thomas will ride for 3 x 12 hour shifts mirroring a nurses shift creating awareness and raising money for charity. Through the app the public can join in and ride along with him which kind of makes it fairly unique. The App also said to expect a medium to fast pace depending on the time of day you join in. The public can sign in for two hour periods which will not only raise money, but also give everyone some exercise.

This afternoon there is an e-ride followed by a race which will include the entire team of Ineos combining their 30 riders. This is great as cyclists at home can also test themselves against the worlds best and feel part of this event.

Certain countries have shut down any outside training so this is the next best thing really. There are various categories and the social groups have become very popular now. You log into a group where you can communicate with other riders from around the world whilst exercising and challenging each other. Who knows the Tour de France could be playing out in everyone's living room this year with many extra members of the public joining in.

This is something that appeals to me, but first I would need all of the equipment to be able to get involved. I will watch this afternoon as this looks like loads of fun. The race starts at 5pm UK time/GMT and just log into Zwift to see the fun.
