It has been a wild ride
A couple days ago, I had my 2 year Steem Birthday here on the blockchain. It is crazy to think that I have been here for two years already, but when I look back and see everything that has happened over those two years, it has been a lot of stuff.
From my very first month here, not knowing anyone and not making anything, to getting my first vote from the awesome curation guild, for my War-Torn about a Vietnam Veteran, it has been awesome. You can watch the film below or check it out on YouTube:
After sharing my film, I began to share more of my photography and get more involved in the photography community here on the Steem Blockchain. I started to share posts about my time in Africa and then started enter my photos in the various contests that were being held.
After being on the blockchain for a few months, I started to come up with ideas for my own photo contest. All of the contests that I had seen only had one tier for all of the entrants, so I wanted to have mine set up so that those that are not as skilled as the professionals still have a chance of winning. So with the amazing support of and
, I was able to launch the Deranged Photography Contests.
The Deranged Photography Contest ran for a long time on my main account before switching over to become a daily contest on a separate account, but due to time, I have switched it back to weekly contest on my main account. You can check out the most recent Storytelling Theme and enter your best photo there.
After about 6 months or so on the blockchain, I decided I wanted to give back and run a witness to do my part in helping to keep the blockchain running. I ran my own witness for several months, but then and I decided we would combine our efforts and run a witness together as a team.
and I have been witness partners for over a year now and the witness and back-up are running strong. Our main focuses with the witness are community engagement, curation and education.
I have made a ton of friends here on Steemit and have been lucky enough to meet many of them in person.
I was fortunate enough to go to Steemfest 3 in Krakow, which was my first big Steem meetup and see how awesome a lot of the members of the community are.
Then I was able to go to Steemfest 4 with my awesome wife and show her how great the community is. We both had such a great time together in Thailand, and it would not have happened without that extra push from Steemfest giving us that opportunity to go.
The future
So what does the future hold? I am glad to be a part of the Creative Coin tribe and seeing where we can go with that. There are some things in the works that we are hoping can go through with the tribe. Giving creatives a way to be rewarded for their efforts has always been a goal of ours and we are hoping to help them have a new way that they can empower themselves here on the blockchain.
Curation is something that I enjoy here on Steem. I enjoy going through the different posts by people and seeing how amazingly talented the community is here. I am glad for the opportunity to be a part of the team to help find quality posts to reward.
One of the new things that I am getting involved with is the Steem Onboarding team. I am hoping to help them with creating some new videos that will educate people about the Steem Blockchain. If you have never heard of Steem Onboarding, it can be a very important resource for helping to explain everything about Steem and how it all works.
Our goal is to provide you with all the information you need to get started and better understand how the steem eco-system can benefit you and your goals.source
On Boarding should be one of the most important goals for this year for many of us here. Communities have launched and SMTs are on the brink of release. This year is going to be an epic year for the blockchain, so hold onto your butts.
