Today's sketch with a bit of inking for Hedgehogs and Bittersweet. I'm always inspried by our seashore and garden and Bittersweet, an invasive vine, is both my nemesis and inspiration. Over the years I've learned to embrace it in some ways; We have an understanding : I let it vine here and there as long as I can give it 'haircuts' in key spots.
Today I'll take you on one of the paths I like to take on my daily walks. We're lucky with rocky short to sandy beach and salt marsh inlets and woodland and field. This bit of my walk takes me through a bit of mown paths in field through a copse of trees down onto the beach. And of course I can't resist wearing me petticoats.
I love this lichen growing in the full sun in the salt laden sand on this path to our beach. I'll be taking some samples to use in an Animal Fairy Garden I'm sure coming up. As Autumn Arrives I'm always up for some inside miniature gardens.
The Rain was really just beginning to spit as I made my way along our beach back to the house and studio. I did stop to toss some rocks, it's hard not too, and fill my pockets with a few 'treasures' to line the studio windows.
In usual New England Fashion betwixt the rain squalls out came the sun and calmed the sea, so I popped down to get some shots and video of the bittersweet which is closest to the shoreline. This location always makes the leaves go yellow first and the berries to turn their golden colour.
The vines up closer to the house, more protected, are still luch green and the berries are just beginning. Come Autumn the yellow berries burst open and reveal an amazing orange red, very typical in Autumnal wreaths in my area.
I am always inspired by our surroundings here and tho it might not always be an exact landscape painting, things as these bittersweet lead me to art such as this, my sketch of the hedgehogs under bittersweet.
Here you can see I've just started to ink the fellow on the left. I'll ink and add colour to this before it's made into prints and put on things like housewares, clothing and stickers and the like.
And for social media as well as my own joy I added colour background just for fun.
