A couple different topics here, and no, the second one is not what you may be thinking. We're having ribs with beans for dinner tonight, so it may be a topic for tomorrow.
For today, however, I can't help but start by saying it's a hot one. Hotter than any day we've seen on the coast so far this summer.
We're nearly a good week into September now, but don't tell that to Southern California. It never pays much attention to seasons anyway. So it's a hot one, to the tune of 100°. Here's how we stay cool on days like this.
It Started With A Small Bottle Sprayer
You know the kind! A cheap .99 cent sprayer that holds maybe 16 ounces of water. Tightening the nozzle locks it up. To make it go from a mist to a stream, you simply unscrew the nozzle.
Be careful not to unscrew it all the way off. These cheap bottles are easy to break. But it sure came in handy this morning around 10 am. The temperature was well on its way to ninety, so I filled the small sprayer up with cold water.
The kids were still sleeping and my wife was inside chilling (figuratively and literally). Taking it upon myself to cool off, I misted myself thoroughly from head to waist. Oh how that hot wind turns cool when your shirt's soaking wet!
Advancing Temps Called For Drastic Measures!
Every once in a while a lightbulb comes on and I have a brilliant idea. Today it was hanging our hose right between the branches of this shrub in our back patio. As you can see, on the end of the hose is a fancy nozzle. Turn it and it switches to various spray patterns.
There it is in all its glory set on mist with the water turned up full blast. This early angle pointed the mist directly at our illustrious patio chairs. I haven't had the pleasure of sitting in the mist yet, but I may once this post is published.
The whole family took a break from the house and made a trip over to the pool. We could walk and chance there's no line. Instead, we opted for the one minute air-conditioned drive.
The pool was incredibly refreshing and after about forty minutes we headed home. We don't like to hog the pool with its occupancy restrictions when people are waiting.
It's been less than an hour since we returned from the pool and my bathing suit is already dry. You know what that means? Time to turn the tree-hose back on!
Silent But Deadly
I know you know what the term means but that's not what I'm talking about! What I'm referring to is my very minimal presence on various Community Discord channels.
For the record right here and now, it's not anything personal. I'm fact, I probably should engage more on those channels than I have been doing. What I don't want to do is get caught up spending too much time on Discord.
It's easy to do. People, myself included, can overindulge in almost any area of life. Social channels and social media can really draw a person in.
A New Community Initiative Starting??

Because I don't join in much on Discord doesn't mean I'm not paying attention. Today the winds of change foretell of a new inter-community initiative.
It's not my intent to spill the beans on any of the info about the new push. If you participate in any of the major HIVE Communities, keep your eyes and ears open for more info about this new movement!
The only thing I will say is that if you work hard and post regularly on HIVE, keep it up. People are watching. If you haven't been publishing with any kind of consistency, now is a perfect time to get back to it.
I'm always willing to help any newcomers hurdle past their roadblocks. What's stopping you? You can be silent on Discord, but blogging takes consistency to be deadly on HIVE!
Thanks for reading and as always...
