Sabang is the westernmost island in Indonesia, which is about 14 miles from the waters of Banda Aceh City as the capital of Aceh Province. To get to Sabang, you can use fast and slow boat transportation from Ulee Lheu Harbor. This island has around 40 thousand inhabitants. Sabang is also the island of the western tip of Indonesia, so the island of Sabang was made 0 kilometers as a sign of the tip of Indonesia.
0 Kilometer Monument Design has several philosophies. The four pillars that function as symbols are national boundaries, namely Sabang to Merauke and Miangas to Rote Island. The large circle on the monument is an analogy from zero. There is also a rencong weapon motif which is a symbol that Aceh also helped fight for Indonesian independence.
Other octagonal ornaments depict the basis of Islam, the culture of Aceh and the islands in a broad scope according to the eight compass directions. Every part of this monument has a national message that unites Indonesia's diversity.
