I haven't created a tarpaulin design for years. The last time I did it, I used Medibang Paint Pro (the windows version). This time, instead of using my laptop, I preferred using my 10.4-inch tablet because of convenience.
Greetings my dear readers. This is my third article here so far in Hive and this is my 9th day on this wonderful writing platform.
I love creating graphic designs. Though I did not have any formal training in this field, I love to explore things on my own. I learned how to use Photoshop, Corel Draw, Inkscape, and other graphic design apps on my own. This includes the cross-platform design application Medibang Paint.
Yesterday was our eldest son's birthday. A few days ago, I have been pondering which application to use. At first, I used Medibang Paint, but somehow I felt something was missing. I thought I tried Ibis Paint. It's just as powerful as Medibang Paint, but somehow it lacks some features when it comes to designing text.
Finally, I decided to use Canva. I was reluctant at first since, Canva is an online platform, and my Internet connection is not that stable. After uploading the background image, which was almost 10 MB in size, I was surprised that I did not notice any lag.
I decided to keep the number of elements in my design to a minimum though.
The Challenge
The challenge was the main image. My wife sent me a photo of our son that was sent via Facebook. This means the image was already compressed and lost some details. And I have to add an image of Huggy Wuggy to the photo. I need to do some photo editing.
I used a couple of apps to do this. I could have just used Photoshop though. But, I wanted to do everything on my tablet. After removing the background, I mashed up the two images. Then I used Picskit to fix some pixelated areas.
Here is the result.
Going back to Canva, I finalized my design.
In Closing.
Photoshop is still the best application for graphic design. However, it's not free to use. Unless you use a pirated copy. Besides, I prefer using my tablet now instead of my laptop out of convenience.
So far though, I have not come across a single Android application that can match Photoshop's full capability. However, by using two or three different applications in combination, you can still get things done on an Android tablet. Moreover, you don't need to pay for any subscription or premium access to do so.
