Try to be a rainbow in someone's else cloud- Maya Angelou.
The first time I saw this quote and it automatically became my favorite, I had a strong connection with it and the impact it had on becoming who I am today can't be quantified. Everything about my life hasn't been just about me for many years now, my hopes and dreams involve a lot of people in my life.
It became clear to me why I am existing when I slipped into the world of listeners and I discovered that it was a place I should be. I have been a rainbow in the cloud of many just by settling to listen to them, it would interest you to know that being a good listener can make you help people solve problems and even make good decisions.
I do call the act of listening a selfless duty and being rewarded with happiness is the best part of it. I feel excited whenever I help anyone as a listener.
I am Sikiru Balikis by name, an indigene of Ogun state in the southwestern part of Nigeria. I was born in the blessed town of Ijebu Ode but grew up in Ijebu Igbo, a place blessed with amazing people and culture.
The place is my root and I enjoy residing there because my family lives there as well. I was born and raised there, all my life has been in Ijebu till this moment. I am from a polygamous family, I am the first child of the family and the only child of my mother.
I am 23 years of age, beautiful and I love to smile a lot because it is my secret anti-aging trick.
After completing my secondary education, I had the opportunity to process my admission into universities in other states but I still choose to further my education in Ijebu.
I have been out of my town quite a lot of times but I am always looking forward to returning home. The town is peaceful, not crowded and the cost of living there is very cool. I have been to Lagos very well because most of my uncles and aunties live there. It is a beautiful place but too rowdy for my liking. Life is too busy there and the cost of living is way too much for a student like me.
Childhood was beautiful for me, I lived with my Grandma and I was pampered all through my childhood. I have lots of aunties and uncles so you can imagine how they made life beautiful for me.
I attended Anglican Girls Grammar school for my junior and secondary education. I studied English at Olabisi Onabanjo University and I am looking forward to my coming graduation soon.
I am a Muslim but I don't discriminate my fellow Christians. I have been to the church a lot of times and also have friends who are Christians. My grandma and her family are Christians so I practiced the religion until I returned to live with my parents.
I am single but not ready to mingle for now because I still have a long way in life. My dreams are countless and sometimes, I get scared of them. They keep me on my toes and there is no time for me to slack or get distracted.
I want to be an English tutor, a linguist, and Baker. I am on my way to fulfilling all this and I know that the Almighty God will crown my effort.
I am a Baker but this is not something I do always. I learned it before I gained admission into the university and I am looking forward to having a big modern bakery in the nearest future.
Aside from all these, it has been a dream for me to own an orphanage home, a charity organization, and a free counseling project that will be open to both the young and old. I feel like the world needs a lot of these things right now and it won't be a bad idea for me to invest in all these things for the sake of the people who needs them.
I am a social person, I love to hang out, travel, and have fun. I am into modeling and I will be exploring the field more after my graduation.
I got to know about Hive through @George-dee, he usually sends me the link to his fiction stories and I always enjoy reading them. He is my big brother and a friend as well.
He asked if I would be willing to join Hive some time ago but I didn't give a response because I wanted to focus on my studies first. I am done with my final exams and nothing is holding me back from exploring a platform where I can read and share what's on my mind as well.
What to expect from me?
It is my first time on a platform like this and I don't want to give people too many expectations but one thing I am sure about is giving my best in terms of engagement to the platform.
George as tutored me about Hive and we have talked severally about it through chats and WhatsApp calls before I took the bold step.
I do write short fiction stories so you should expect many of them on the platform. Since I love going out, I will be sharing my outings and travels here as well.
I am fun to be with, you can never be bored around me. I have a lot of my friends because of my social lifestyle and we love ourselves wholeheartedly. I will invite a lot of them to Hive and they will definitely bring lots of fun to the platform.
I feel really happy becoming a member of the platform and thanks for welcoming Lara-bee to Hive.
