A few days ago I went to my aunt's house to pick up a package that I had for me, when I entered I found my cousin very sad, he is a 13-year-old young man, with a reserved personality, calm But with a good heart, I asked him why he was sad? ... and he said he was like this because some boys from his street who claimed to be his friends, edited and uploaded a photo of him with phrases to ridicule him, becoming a meme that circulated on various social networks, receiving comments for annoying from some of the children in the area where they live.

This situation caused a lot of discomfort and sadness in my cousin, who is still too young to handle this situation with maturity, when my aunt noticed this attitude, she approached him and asked what he had. ... he told the situation to his parents what had happened to him and they recommended that he ignore them and that he really was not all those things that the image said ... they told him that they were jokes of young people, that he did not let that It affected him ... and they recommended that he know how to choose and recognize who his true friends were ... those people who love and defend you just as you are ... My cousin's sadness calmed down and he thanked his parents for such wonderful advice .
Fortunately, my cousin's situation did not go any further, however, this is not always the case, a simple joke, can have a fatal outcome, and every day we witness regrettable news of young victims. of harassment because of their skin color, sexual orientation, physical appearance or any other situation ... intolerance is such that many young people who feel powerful have become the executioners of the most vulnerable ... now along with access to social media make this lethal mix.

Today I decided to write this article, as a way to express my discontent in this situation and although cyberbullying is widespread and occurs in several ways, such as malicious text messages, photo exposures, threats by social networks, Among others, on this occasion I will make reference to memes as a tool for cyberbullying, since I have currently noticed that this type of images that can be presented statically or in movement, has been proliferating every day among the main social networks (Facebook , instagram, twitter, whatsApp), seeking to speak up and impact Internet users who succumb to automatically visualize, replicate and send these images and sometimes without measuring their consequences.

This post is not intended to discredit memes, however, I want to refer to the use that many people give to this communication instrument, particularly, I really enjoy them, I use them to communicate something or I just do catharsis, laughing at many of the occurrences embodied in them, however, I had not stopped to think that many of the memes with which we laugh, sometimes are cause of sadness and misery of the people who appear in them, just that sometimes we are oblivious to it and we only read, laugh and almost automatically send them to others, sometimes making them viral.Such as the case of the young Débora Cristina N, whose life turned into a nightmare, for her meme which they baptized as 'Oakley diva' for the brand of glasses.

I want to refer to a statistic that caught my attention, made by UNICEF, which carried out a survey among 30 countries, concluding that one in three adolescents worldwide are or have been victims of cyberbullying ... likewise, other organizations such as the International NGO Bullying without borders, in contribution with the OECD for Europe, Africa, Asia, America and Oceania, in their first global study on Bullying carried out between 2017 and 2018 stated that this phenomenon they had increased alarmingly worldwide compared to previous years.

Friends !!! To conclude I leave these statistics as a reflection, it denotes that intolerance and harassment at all levels have increased indiscriminately, in the case of cyberbullying as a result of graphic images such as memes have emphasized this situation because they have been enhanced by the expansion of social networks and globalization ... it will be up to us to use these as an original and novel way of communicating, making people laugh, transmitting an idea or feeling, instead of using it as a weapon to harm, offend, harm and cause misery to other people.
Thanks for reading. I love!
