(a 'revolution' in the 'hivemind'?...oooooh, not good imagery for 'non commies')
The name.
The bloody name.
I detest it with a passion, I really do.
(I thought steem was bad enough, but no, it got much worse).
Why am I so 'down' on the name?
Overtones.
Overtones of the mindset on here, being a collective one. 'hivemind'? ffs.
This does NOT spark images (in my mind) of 'freedom', 'decentralization' or 'individualism'.
It does give me images of collectivism, communism, and totalitarianism...
And that's the point.
You know that sayin? It goes long the the lines of:
'that is which is not good for the hive, is not good for the bee'.
Rather than,
'That which is not good for the bee, cannot be good for the hive'.
One has a very collectivist perspective, and the second one has a more individualist point of view.
The first one is total utter garbage, and, intellectually - a lie.
(see how well 'the hive' gets on, without any Bee's).
The Bee is the lowest common denominator.
Period.
So, going forwards with the objective truth statement (the second one) , a Bee CAN live on it's own, outside of the hive, and transferring that to our HIVE, what can we see?
Down voting is bad for the bee's productivity, psychological state, and it's available food resources.
This - by the definition used above, cannot be good for the hive.
I use down voting just as an example, ( I understand how the non human influences, can justify such a function).
My post isn't about the mechanic of this place, but the mindset within it, and the perception of the ecosystem, from the outside world.
I've been on twatter promoting HIVE this last few days - hard.
I've some very interesting- and deep - conversations with both big and small twitter accounts.
The name 'hive' - and the image that it invokes - was mentioned more than once.
And ALL of the comments were in a negative way pertaining to the name.
As I've posted previously, HIVE is in a great position to catch the wave of the changing zeitgeist away from leftism.
(It is dead - or will be shortly).
The question is...
HOW DO WE CHANGE THE PERCEPTION (IMAGERY) OF WHAT 'HIVE' NAME CONJURES UP.
.... IN THE MINDS OF REAL FREETHINKERS, REAL PIONEERS, THOSE WHO ARE LOOKING FOR A DECENTRALIZED PLACE TO HANG OUT?
Honestly, I don't know.
I'm here all the time, and I can't shake the negative connotations that the name brings up, never mind for other people just finding this place for the first time.
Another notch in the 'reasons we are not growing' post? (no pun intended).
A good place to start would be to rid ourselves of any ' collectivist mindset'.
....aaaaaand that's my next post....
