If you want to start with being coffee nerd-ish, French press is the start. I know the quality might differ from pour-over coffee but if you do it right, it will taste delicious.
French press has many pro's such as : portability, easy to use, energy-saving; no electricity needed and easy to clean.
There are some important things to note while making coffee : the water, the coffee and the time.
Some coffee makers mentioned to start with coarse grind that resembles breadcrumbs but if you don't have it, fine ground will do. There's a trick that won't make it bitter.
Let's get started !
Step 1
Prepare your coffee press and the coffee ground. Put one tablespoon of coffee inside the coffee press. Then, heat your water.
Step 2
When the water boils, let it cool for exactly 30 seconds and pour half inside the carafe. This first pour is crucial. It determines your coffee taste. So, don't forget to set a timer for 4 minutes to let it bloom [this won't make your coffee taste too bitter]. Then, after a minute stir the coffee. When the 4 minute is done, add more water and plunge.
Step 3
Pour out your french press coffee. If you want to make flat white, you can simply add steamed milk to your coffee. With a portion of steamed milk > espresso. But if you want to make cafe macchiato, it's espresso > coffee.
And that's it, a perfect cup of joe for your morning routine. signing out
