Are you crazy?
No I am not. I just got rid of 325 items from my 3x3 room.
I joined this minimalism game that challenges someone to get rid of items based on the date during May. I never joined this game the previous year and this is my first year of joining this game.
Essentially, it has to be 31 days but I stopped during the 25 days. That means, I've got debt to get rid of 170 items.
Most of the items are being donated and also thrown because they don't serve purpose anymore in my life.
This challenge has been eye-opening. I learned from this to only buy things that will add value and purpose in my life. It's not that I didn't learn it before, I did but somehow my inner shopaholic was awakened last year. And I had to stop it. That's why I joined this Minimalism challenge.
It is insane how someone can hoard things up to more than 1000 items. I also still can't grasp that some items I own have zero value. Overall, it was a rude awakening to see how much money drained for things that serve no purpose whatsoever in my life.
Trust me, letting go was not easy. Even it was just a pencil, I found it hard to let go. The stories behind it, the places I traveled with it , all were attached to that very pencil.
So, the hardest part of this challenge was letting go items that have memories.
In retrospect, remember going into my tiny room with only two bags filled with some clothes and necessary papers. Eventually, 4,5 years later my room is filled with things. From clothes, books, small items, stationery, and a bunch of mementos from places I traveled.
These add up. Sure, my clothing has improved, I finally got a proper mattress, comfy pillows, and proper working space. But some things are really meant to let go, at least that I found.
This whole experience has been very liberating to me and my tiny room. Since there are less items to clean and maintain, I have more space to move around and less thought I put into things.
And to sum up my whole experience, I learned something very profound that sure sticks to my brain now. Never buy things that will serve no purpose. Always and always think twice before buying something.
