The team of the Chinese company Brighsun New Energy, has managed to create a prototype of lithium-sulfur (Li-S) batteries that will allow from powering a mobile phone for more than a week, to allowing an electric car to travel more than 2,000 kilometers with a single charge.
The battery industry has tried all kinds of combinations: lithium iron phosphate, lithium oxide and cobalt and currently nickel, manganese and cobalt but none achieves a high energy density.
According to tests carried out by an independent agency, the new design could multiply by 5 to 8 times the energy densities of current batteries, reaching figures of 1,000 Wh / kg, and with a useful life that after 1,700 cycles manages to maintain capacity 91%.

To get an idea, the battery of a Tesla Model 3, which is currently considered one of the best on the market, has only a density of 247 Wh / kg.
From the company it has been confirmed that they will be able in a short period of time to have the first production line ready that they hope will be prepared by the end of this year.
And best of all, this battery is made of inexpensive materials, which they hope will allow them to drop below $ 100 per kWh and can also be recycled with little environmental impact.

These lithium-sulfur batteries also have the potential to become the most promising energy storage system for future railways, ships, and airlines.
It is surprising what the subject of electric mobility has advanced in just a decade, at this rate the same will happen with vehicles as with digital watches, the battery charge will last longer than the vehicle.
