Over the past five years celebrating my birthday has always been about hanging out with friends, going to fun places and partying till we dropped so when my birthday was fast approaching and my town was under lock down i could not think of any nice way of celebrating the day without it being boring for me. With the pandemic still raging through the country with rapid increase in positive cases everyday it was not even safe to step out of the gate of you home without putting yourself in danger. So i was stuck with having to stay at home and find a way to still make the day great for myself and the family.
The day started very early for me, as early as 12am in the morning when wishes and the birthday messages started coming through, even before i fell asleep i was beaming with smiles, maybe the day would turn out great after all. I spent the greater portion of my morning replying well wishes and messages still wondering how best i could make my evening great, so i decided to do the usual thing i have been doing for the past 4 years in school, a birthday party with my family as my guest of honors and it turned out greater than i was even expecting.
Starting with a prayer to commemorate the event we moved on to dancing where the parents were the judges, the winner was to receive a special package prize to honor the birthday boy, this was followed by an allocated time for myself to show the family what i have got, i must say i did a terrible job because i am not that much of a dancer after some laughing moments, the singing of happy Birthday Songs followed suits with popping of champagne drinks and everyone got the chance to recite their own wishes for me. We ended the day with some more dancing and crowned it with the popular delicacy "fufu".
It was exactly how my birthday celebrations have been since my first year in the university and i was the best one yet since my five years in the university and that was when i really understood the saying that "A Happy Family is but an earlier Heaven". I could not have wished for things to be any better and i could not have wished for a more wonderful family. This virus may have kept us at home and put lots of things we are used to doing at a halt but if there is anything positive of this pandemic, it is that we have grown closer to our families, we are learning to do thing we have never than before and we have the opportunity to improve ourselves in ways we could not have even imagine. I urge all to take advantage of the opportunity they have and make the best of whichever situation they find themselves in.
