Today I am back with another review of a famous RUM in India, also it is fairly cheap but the taste is amazing.
So I present in front of you "Old Monk"
This my dear friends is the hero of Dark Rum.
Old Monk is a dark vatted 7 year old rum. It was the best selling in the world untill recently. I must tell you that this was the most liked rum without any advertisement. It has registered record breaking sales all over India.
I was very astonished and excited at the same time when I saw that a 70s label bottle is being sold like a hotcake in todays world. I was shocked to know it costs only Rs. 300 (nearly $4) , Just after that, I was aware that it must have the roughness of alcohol rather being smooth unlike the other expensive bottles.
The bottle is a fine glass netted design all over with a open pourer. The lid is fairly cheap metal that bends most of the time when opening.
Now the Taste, is like neat alcohol. It is rough and it is so that you can actually feel the burn from alcohol all over your mouth where it has gone through. I would suggest to drink is with water and a splash of ice. You can also add cola just to make the taste a little sweet ex(60 ml rum with 100 ml of cola and rest ice & water). I had it with Ice and water and it talks to you and slowly it tells you that you have had something. It lets you consume a good amount of Rum and then you feel the soothing pleasure that lasts long. The drink has almost no Hangover if consumed responsibly. I would say in winters 120 - 180 ml is sufficient to enjoy the eve. I love this drink and I drink it very often in winters.
