It’s been years since I and my cousins had our last adventure, and it’s getting difficult to have time now that we are older.
During afternoons, we used go fishing or hike on hills until sundown, so carefree and unknowing of what lies in our future.
Right now, it’s hard to find a common time to meet again and would cost just to go home.
And my mind is constantly dealing with numbers: progress, data, tax, expenses, etc.
It’s tiring.
I feel nostalgic when remembering those days while at work, sometimes I dream of going back home and live there.
Even with a good salary, it doesn’t feel right to work every single day of my life enclosed in concrete and glass walls – that’s what most people want, more than enough for needs, insurance and savings, and for other expenses.
But even if there’s no stable job with competitive salary in my hometown, it’s priceless to be home – to live with little to no stress, and have free supply of foods all year round.
I could follow my grandparents and build a sustainable farm, have free ranged poultry and plant organic vegetables almost year round, it would be both economical and healthy.
Rice and coconut would be a good source of income for savings and wants.
A lot has change, I’ve been thinking of settling down and be able to provide financially – putting my dreams behind, almost forgotten.
But right now, all I can do is keep saving and dreaming.
Dirty Kitchen
Watercolor on Paper
At the back of our house was my grandparents house, while they have a kitchen, it's common for traditional homes to have another dirty kitchen. This was when my Grandpa was still alive, right now it was converted into a stockroom.
Grapevines by the Back Door
Ink & Watercolor on Paper
When our house was renovated and extended about two decades ago, the orchidarium and grapevines were removed to give way to a bigger living room.
I marcotted the remaining grapes and replanted some in the Garden and on our backyard, it trailed on the wall and near the roof.
Bougainvillea in a Narrow Passageway
Ink & Watercolor on Paper
When going on adventures, either I would be picked up or I pick up my cousin at their house. When going to their house, there's a small passageway that leads to a giant bougainvillea tree and whenever the wind blows, it's petals would rain down.
These are some of childhood memories, a lot has changed right now. We are all focused to become financially stable and handling our relationships well. We slowly lost our time for adventures in our hometown.
