Their parents are poor and have no money for school uniforms or books and stationery!
So the children were sent to an NGO to be educated!
The leaders of 40 NGO's (Non-Governmental Organizations) gathered today in the Western Cape Province for a networking meeting. The purpose of the meeting was mainly empowerment, but also board development, governance, financial management and policy creation. Of course, networking between the NGO's was encouraged, to enhance service delivery to the public in poor areas.
Of course, The Papillon Foundation aka was there.
Come and have a look below!
The art that I will show you in this post was done by junior and senior children at an NGO.
Each child gets an opportunity to paint their own version of a photo, or object that is presented to them.
The NGO registration of attendance was in early swing and each NGO received a welcome pack.
Some paper-mache dolls made by the junior children, again each child using their own ideas.
This is the best way to develop individual talents.
Soon the leaders were all settled down and the serious presentations began.
A two hour session with little break away groups to discuss pertinent points was also done!
Here is a collection of African Wild Dogs completed by the juniors!
One of the small breakaway groups discussing NGO governance!
A pencil sketch Giraffe by one of the senior children. Now see how this child has developed, as he was once a junior child that painted wild dogs and made paper -mache dolls.
Marian of Papillon doing her thing here in a breakaway group!
Here is one of my favorites done by one of the senior children!
I had to edit this cast a little bit so as to not offend anyone. But it is also a lovely piece!
Finally, it was time to wrap it all up. Contact details were shared between the NGO leaders and I had the distinct feeling that greater things will result from this.
Papillon will supply incontinence nappies to 2 cerebral palsy children homes and we will also schedule a free trauma training occasion for all of the participants.
And there you have it. Evidence that Papillon was present in the file held here by one of the leaders.
The importance of NGO governance including accountability and legal practices, cannot be overemphasized.
Some wily scammers have done serious damage to the NGO name in the past, but now things are undergoing a drastic change. For instance, an annually audited set of financials is to be presented to the government and the South African tax services. Apart from this, strict policies according to set frameworks must be in place. Accountability board interactions and minuted meetings also have to be presented to inspectors that will pay visits occasionally to each NGO.
We are of course all for it, as in Papillon's 19 years of existence we have submitted all of the required documentation every year without fail. Empowerment and dignity restoration are two of our cornerstones, and of course most of it starts with the children, education and the plight of adults and old people also receive attention. Short, medium and long term projects are in place, and each milestone is recorded.
As many here know, we have only recently relocated to the Western Cape province, and this meeting was a God-send for now we have made contact with most of the NGO's that work in the charity field in this area; and greater things can start to be planned to work together.
