There are resources we find on HIVE to help new users navigate the platform. In this post, I will include my experience in how I navigated my first month and appreciation I have for users who helped me explore. There are many users who directly or indirectly helped me. However, I would highlight two engagements that were specific and pointed in shaping my understanding.
Fasten your seat belt to go through my journey. Hope this is helpful to other new users who are trying to explore and understand this new revolution.
A True Newbie
I joined HIVE in May. I am not even two months old on the HIVE platform. The month and a half on this platform has been a steep learning curve for me. There are many details that a new user should be aware of if you want to be effective on the platform. But, the biggest hurdle a newbie faces is to understand how to build your network in a platform where you don’t know anyone. It is not life Facebook or Twitter where fellow members are either your friends or families. You seldom make new friends. It's the exact opposite on HIVE. You start from the scratch and make friends along the way. One needs to be genuine and open to survive.
I have been Helped by Many
As I said before, a Newbie will need help to navigate the platform. I didn't even know what "Communities" in HIVE meant and how to subscribe and post to different communities. It is confusing for new users to fathom the concept of "Resource Credits" and "Upvoting". The first hour of joining the platform, I realized I have to be selective while commenting and upvoting. Everything requires resource credits and you have to earn it. So be mindful where you spend your precious resources.
Reddit Connection
That led me to something unimaginable. I am active on Reddit and thought I would find a Hive Subreddit. There it was, and the same day posted a hive blog link on reddit where he mentioned he is willing to help newbies be delegating Hive Power. Higher HP means higer RC. That was what I was looking for. I messaged and he provided much needed delegation. Only then I could breathe and started commenting and upvoting posts.
Actifit Posts
I started exploring once I had 15 HP on my account. Quickly figured out and other communities like OCD and GEMS. But, it was tough to get noticed on OCD and GEMS as the traffic is super high. As I normally would walk everywhere and occasionally run, Actifit was my best bet. I became regular on publishing Actifit posts.
Helping Hands
Luck struck the second time for me. I found on Actifit and started following him. Through his posts I discovered
community dedicated to HIVE members who post activities that include running. I am thankful and appreciative of his help in navigating Actifit posting issues.I enjoyed his posts. I am a recreational runner and have been posting on Strava for long. I immediately subscribed to the community and started following fellow active members. Apart from being active there, I also posted on Sportstalkofficial where I came across
who blogs on HIVE and Scorum. It’s comforting to find known usernames in this Cryptoworld. I have not forgotten another username from Scorum. You
:)
Exhaust Community
I appreciate the community in providing a platform for users who are into active sports. The community is supportive and I could see the future potential. The running posts posted on this group are genuine and motivated me to remain active. The reason for my continued engagement on Hive is due to this community and I have my genuine appreciation for that.
HIVE Resource Center @sidwrites
When I earlier mentioned you will make friends with good hearth on this platform, I was talking about The conversation quickly spiralled into a coaching session where he laid out what I should do as a newbie to earn a dollar on my post. I don’t know if he was joking but I was damn serious. Four points he mentioned were:
- Add a DP
- Follow 20 people everyday
- Leave 20 comments everyday
- Continue writing 1 post a day
I tried to abide by these rules. And, I had my first One Dollar post after five days of having that conversation.
A Lesson on Smart Voting
@SteevC reminded me an important lesson which could be useful to any newbies out there. Don’t burn your upvotes on posts that do not require your upvoting. Rather, use that to support other newbies who would get motivated from someone else genuinely upvoting their posts. The idea was to keep your resources to selectively vote where matters. Read his post where he detailed what I am mentioning.
What do Newbies Need?
What do newbies need?
Appreciation, genuine engagement and recognition. Yes, most of the users are here to earn crypto and blog. But, that does not mean users don’t want to have fun or get genuine comments on their posts. I personally would like to see genuine engagement on my posts. That will give me a sense of pride that I am writing a blogpost which others are finding worthy. Upvotes will come. I would rather focus on engagement that would eventually bring upvotes and rewards.
