Hail to the Hive!
Now this is not only our first winter living on a boat but it is also our first full winter in any capacity in 8 years. And I hate being cold, hence moving to tropical climates many years ago.
So I ain’t taking any chances. We had the solid fuel stove installed so we could burn a variety of stuff to stay warm, and that is the plan!
Yesterday we were getting low on fuel so I decided to head into town on the boat. So to be sure we don’t get low on fuel I got some ecoal smokeless fuel but needed to carry it on our donated dolly as its heavy.
Immediate worry of getting cold now averted we could relax and stay warm and head back to the countryside the next day.
The next day on the way back we struck solid fuel stove gold! We passed some tree surgeons taking down maple trees at a canalside pub as the recent winds proved them to be in danger of causing a failling hazard. One of the guys asked if we needed any logs and at first I thought he was joking but nope, he was serious. Help yourself he said.
Now in my hurry to pull over, tie up and make full use of the offer I neglected to take any photos. They even loaned us their wheel barrow to carry them to the boat! Absolute stars ⭐️
So then we headed back through the only lock we needed to do fully loaded with not only ecoal but a rooftop completely chocka block full of maple wood.
We really had no more space on the roof!
And I was struggling on the stern deck also.
But so worth it. Now tomorrow I have a day of sawing and chopping to do which I will for sure post about as I have been itching to use the axe we bought a while back. Time the get busy with the axe and hope the dog walkers and cyclists on the tow path don’t get too scared by mad old wielding the axe canalside!
Be afraid 😳 Be very afraid 😱
It so toasty warm on Badger the Narrowboat and long may it remain so!
Best part is, Free heating fuel! Gotta love it 😝
