Describing yourself is never easy and I am sure if you do it two days in a row, then you will be a slightly different person each time! So here goes.
Who am I?
My name is Edward, although often I am called Ed, I answer to both amongst other names!
Where do I come from?
Up until the age of 5 I lived in Belfast, Northern Ireland. One day I came home from school only to be bundled into the family car and whisked onto a ferry to Scotland. My family is originally from Scotland, because of The Troubles my father had been put on a death list due to the nature of his work. As soon as my mother found out she made us go back to Scotland immediately.
My accent is Scottish, until I get tipsy and then the Northern Irish in me comes out.
What do I do?
I am a qualified Chemical Engineer and worked all over the world in the Oil and Gas Industry either as a Process Engineer or in Project Management. I have survived two plane crashes and been shot at and stabbed all through working in risky climates. My mother named me Lucky Eddie.
You only live once though right? So enjoy life to the max is my motto!
Since the pandemic I have pretty much worked from home, and that is something I intend to pursue more.
Do I have any hobbies?
Aside from following the mighty Glasgow Rangers football team, I love to write and dabble in nature photography. During the pandemic, I also learned to loomknit and even made my first beanie hat and it is still wearable! Who said you can't teach old dogs new tricks lol.
Do I have any interests?
Nature, I love wildlife. When I worked in West Africa, the first weekend there, I went off into the jungle and the jeep I was a passenger in got stuck in a swamp. The one in front shouted that they would tow us if I got out and attached a tow rope to the front of our jeep. I duly climbed through the window as the water was waist-high deep. I walked around to the front, ducked under the water, and attached the rope to the front of our jeep. When I surfaced I noticed a couple of the guys in the back of the pickup truck in front, standing with machetes in their hands and with worried faces. I got back into our jeep, to be told to look to my right. I saw a cayman crocodile that had apparently swum over my head as I was fixing the rope. Eddie Wildlife became my nickname for the two years I was working there.
With my career in the Oil and Gas Industry I was lucky enough to visit so many countries and meet so many wonderful people. I love to travel and explore new cultures. The world is a global village and I love all of it.
I use crypto earnings to feed the animals in my local park. In addition to talking to them, I also write stories about them. Eddie Wildlife has been resurrected.
What will I bring to Hive?
Throughout my career, I have written loads, from reports to memos to emails to a thesis or two with a multitude of different writing types in between.
My great grandfather wrote his memoirs and I intend to do the same. I love to tell a good story and have started writing my memoirs in a fact/fiction format which I call faction.
I am what we describe as a silver blogger, I have been writing blogs on and off for quite a few years on a variety of platforms.
I shall be writing stories and sharing my adventures with the animals, with the crypto world and also about my quest to buy and live on a narrowboat cruising the canals of England.
I finally have decided to follow in the footsteps of some great friends and writers that I know from read.cash @CoquiCoin and
Thank you for reading and as we say in Scotland, Haste Ye Back!
