Hello everyone! How are you? I hope that you are all safe!
I just want to share to you how harvest our corn crop here in the Philippines. Mechanize harvester is not yet famous here in our country but there some who uses machines for harvesting like the Combine Harvester. But many are still using the traditional way of harvesting.
Traditional harvesting is done manually by people and requires a lot of man power.
First thing to do when harvesting the corn is to pick the fruit from the corn tree.
One by one you have to pick the fruit.
So if you have like a hactare of cornfield it cost you a lot of time just to pick all the corn fruits.
The picked corn fruits are piled on the ground. As you move forward when picking you will make another pile.
It takes a day to finish picking a hectare of corn with 8 people.
The other day, when all fruit is already picked from the tree, it's time to gather the piled fruits and put them in the sacks.
This process also can consume half a day or a day depending on the manpower you have. This time it took us almost a day to finish because we're only six persons to do it.
After all corn fruits are put in the sacks,it time to secure the sacks by putting some lock so that fruits will spill out when transported.
When all sacks are secured, it's time to collect them and transport them by loading th into a hand tractor or kuliglig in our local dialect.
All sacks of corn fruits are piled in one place and will be stocked for 2-3 days to make the corn seeds more harder so that they will not be crushed when they are put in a thresher machine.
All process took us 2 days to finish.
Harvesting the traditional way is very hard because you have to deal with the heat of the sun and the time you will spend doing all of these stuffs. This kind of work is not for faint hearted because it will push you to your limits. Unlike when using Machines this kind of work is just gonna be easy and won't consume a lot of time.
That's all for now!
Thank you for stopping by!
Have a great day everyone!
Maraming salamat!
