Happy Thaipusam
Malaysia is also made up of the Hindu community and that is why Malaysia is one of the countries that celebrates the most public holidays. Mainly because there are many festivities from different races and traditions to be celebrated. One of it falls today, 28th January 2021 which is Thaipusam AKA Thaipoosam.
This Festival can be seen celebrated by the Tamil Hindu community where they would parade the streets with their Hindu god. Sometimes, (before the time where there was covid19), tourist and Malaysian alike would hit the streets to catch the fancy parades where the Hindus will carry their god around the city.
There is also a temple called Batu Caves which translates to Rock Cave that houses their god that will attract many of their devotees and tourist. It has been very well since commercialize over the years and with the coming on Thaipusam, you will see many food stalls and merchandise stalls set up outside the cave entrance. I, for one have never been to Batu Caves but it is said that you have to climb 1000 steps of stairs to reach the top. Over the years, even the Chinese have implemented their own 'ideas' on the steps that if you carry your loved ones to the top without dropping 'her' midway, the god will bless your relationship. That is how Malaysians coincides with one another. Even if the festivities are for the Tamil Hindu community, the rest celebrates alongside harmoniously.
During this time as well, many devotees carry offerings on their heads to the temple and to the parades. Some may show their devotion of sacrifice by piercing their bodies. Also to show their devotion, penance and willpower to their god.

I know right?! It's amazing how these people can feel no pain, or rather have trained their minds to endure these pain. Surprisingly, most of the piercings do no bleed which is a wonder.
It is sad that in Malaysia this year, we do not get to celebrate or see the streets be filled with happy people or the parades of acts to show their god their devotions. From piercings, to dances, to fire wizards... all of these makes Malaysia a multicultural country.
Have a great weekend ahead.
