During a walk along Santa Rosa Street, I came across a plaza I'd never seen before: Plaza de los Obispos (Bishops' Plaza). It's located on the avenue of the same name, near the Benigno Bruzual roundabout and the La Copita building, directly across from the Radio 2000 station. The plaza pays homage to Monsignor Sixto Sosa, the first bishop of Cumaná. There's also an educational institution in the city named after this distinguished figure.
The plaza is located in front of Radio 2000 on the island of Santa Rosa Street and very close to the church of the same name. There is a plaque there, which reads the name of the plaza and the tribute paid to this bishop, for being the first bishop of Cumaná and for the missionary work he carried out in the region. The pedestal is made of marble and has a square base; around it are several Spider Lily plants Hymenocallis littoralis.
The plaza resembles a small forest nestled on Santa Rosa Street, ideal and perfect for resting and cooling off from the intense sun that characterizes the city; I have passed through this area several times, but to be honest I had not seen the plaza, while I was running errands with my son in front of Radio 2000, when we saw the plaza we stopped for more than an hour, taking advantage of the fact that there wasn't much sun and we sat under the trees, on the wooden bench.

La plaza se ubica frente a radio 2000 en la isla de la calle santa Rosa y muy cerca de la iglesia que lleva el mismo nombre, en ella encuentra una placa, donde se lee el nombre de la misma y el homenaje que se rinde a este obispo, por ser el primer obispo de Cumaná y la labor misionera que realizó en la entidad, el pedestal es de mármol y tiene una base cuadrada, alrededor de él hay varias plantas de Lirio Araña Hymenocallis littoralis.
La plaza parece un pequeño bosque enclavado en la calle Santa Rosa, ideal y perfecto para descansar y refrescarse del sol intenso que caracteriza a la ciudad; he pasado varias veces por esta zona, pero siendo honesta no había visto la plaza, mientras realizaba varias diligencias con mi hijo al frente de radio 2000, al ver la plaza nos detuvimos más de una hora, aprovechamos que no había mucho sol y nos sentamos debajo de los árboles, en el banco de madera.
The planters are made of green-painted stones and are circular in shape. There are also palm trees and various ornamental plants. Something that caught my eye in this plaza was a bench made from a tree trunk with branches. Besides being original and creative, it's an excellent way to make use of tree trunks, providing a place to sit and rest while admiring the beautiful plants and enjoying the breeze and shade offered by our green friends.
Most of the plants have a circle made of green-painted stones around them. Some have two circles, and these in turn define the plaza's planters. In addition to lilies and palm trees, there are other plants like snake plants, ferns, and large trees that provide a refreshing atmosphere.
The city of Cumaná has several plazas, and on the various tours I've taken with my son, we've visited many of them. There are still a few we'll visit later. These plazas are emblematic places that, in addition to beautifying the city and marking milestones, pay homage to prominent figures for their work on behalf of the city and its inhabitants. They also remind us of the work and legacy of the heroes during the country's emancipation process. As one of the men in charge of maintaining this plaza told us: "Each one is a testament to the feats and works of the people who have done them. They tell interesting stories that all the city's inhabitants should know, because they carried out great actions that contributed to the well-being of the region, showcasing the warmth and humanity of this part of the country."
I've been surprised by the number of plazas I've seen, and I hope to continue my tour of Cumaná's numerous plazas in the near future.
Las jardineras son de piedras pintadas de color verde y tienen forma circular, también hay palmeras y varias plantas ornamentales, algo que me llamó la atención en esta plaza, fue un banco, que consiste en un tronco con ramas, además de ser original creativo, es una excelente opción para aprovechar los troncos de los árboles, tener un lugar para sentarse y descansar en esta plaza mientras observas las hermosas plantas que la adornan y disfrutas la brisa y sombra que nos regalan los amigos verdes.
La mayoría de las plantas tienen a su alrededor un círculo hecho con piedras pintadas de color verde, hay otras que tienen dos círculos y estos a su vez demarcan las jardineras de la plaza, además de los lirios y palmeras, hay otras plantas como la Lengua de suegra, Putica y árboles grandes que refrescan el lugar.
La ciudad de Cumaná posee varias plazas y en los diferentes recorridos que he realizado en compañía de mi hijo, hemos conocido muchas de ellas, nos faltan algunas que posteriormente iremos a visitar; las plazas son lugares emblemáticos que además de adornar la ciudad y marcar hitos, rinden homenaje a personas destacadas por la labor que realizan en pro de la ciudad y sus habitantes, también nos recuerdan el trabajo y legado de los próceres durante el proceso de emancipación del país; tal como nos comentó uno de los señores encargados de hacer el mantenimiento a esta plaza: "Cada una, constituye un testimonio de las hazañas y obras que han hecho los hombres, ellas cuentan interesantes historias, que todos los habitantes de la ciudad deberíamos conocer, pues ellos realizaron grandes acciones que contribuyeron al bienestar de la ciudad, dando a conocer la calidez humana de esta región del país.
Me ha sorprendido la cantidad de plazas que he conocido y espero en un futuro cercano continuar con mi ruta de visitar las numerosas plazas de Cumaná.
