🦉 The red squirrel (Sciurus vulgaris), also called Eurasian red squirrel
We are all used to seeing squirrels in city gardens and parks. They have a well-fed life, because people who walk in the parks constantly treat them with nuts. However, the life of squirrels that live in the wild is completely different.
They have to get their own food and not wait for people to bring it. They eat berries, nuts, mushrooms, insects, bird eggs, frogs. In addition, they make food reserves to survive difficult times.
By winter, the squirrel builds a nest for itself, insulating it with moss, where it waits out particularly cold days.
