Mount Mayon is often called the most beautiful volcano in the world because of its nearly perfect cone shape.
From our Philippine home, we can see the volcano blowing smoke from afar, especially during the early morning. Looking at it while having a hot coffee outside has always been my favourite time.
It is an active volcano, but the country has an efficient system for monitoring it and has always been good at warning people to leave and evacuate before it explodes.

Some locals who witnessed the eruption many times were fearless and needed to be convinced to leave the area for safety.
Mayon has erupted over 50 times in the past 400 years. Some eruptions are gentle, with lava flowing slowly down its sides, while others are explosive.
On clear days, it stands tall and majestic above the surrounding green fields, with clouds sometimes circling the peak, it looks beautiful. It is not just a natural wonder but also a cultural symbol and a pride of the Filipinos. It is surrounded by rice fields, rivers, and historical ruins like the Cagsawa Church ruins, and lots of tourists go to visit it.
Even the Legaspi Air Airport is located by it; the passenger waiting area overlooks the volcano, which is such a lovely scenery to see while waiting.
When it erupts, it shows off its beautiful cone shape lit by glowing red lava. The eruption can be seen from far across the villages and cities around. People even get to go to safe zone areas where they can witness the eruption safely.
It's amazing how this volcano lights up when it’s time to erupt. We call it Mayon, from the outer local Bikol word "Magayon", which means beautiful.
