For my Freestyle Collage No. 19, my theme is Celebrating Valentine's Day. In a few days on February 14th, Valentine's Day will be observed by millions of people in countries around the world. The day signifies joy, happiness, sharing, and expression of feelings to others.
Valentine's Day, also called Saint Valentine's Day or the Feast of Saint Valentine, is celebrated annually on February 14. The day originated as a Christian feast day honoring one or two early Christian martyrs named Saint Valentine. 1
Later, through various folk traditions in numerous countries, Valentine's Day has become a significant cultural and religious day of observance. 1
It is a special day.
I remember as a child, our schools would set aside special activities for the upcoming day. Teachers would have students make greeting cards to share with classmates.
Parents were encouraged to purchase small boxes of Valentine candy for classmates. The candy wasn't expensive, however, purchasing items for an entire class could become expensive for families with limited resources.
Several decades ago, commercializing the celebration of romance and love exploded. Today, millions of dollars are spent each year on.
Sending and receiving flowers and gifts have become the norm.
Gatherings for various activities associated with romance and love have become popular, such as dinner dates and outings to special places that have significance for the individuals. This expression symbolizes the remembrance of the qualities that each person initially recognized in the other that formed the attraction.
Society has evolved in this respect. Not only can a females send wishes to males, but vice versa with no underlying intent meant or received.
The day is not set aside only for romantic relationships. Any relationship where one person celebrates the other in family, friends, workplace, and other settings, is accepted as normal in the current social environment.
However, I can understand why some people feel the day is overrated and exaggerated. Their point is that if individuals who express gratitude, love, and appreciation for others every day of the year, then there would be no need to designate one special day.
I feel that Valentine's Day celebrations may occur around the universe? The occasion may not resemble the rituals that humans on Earth observe, but that doesn't mean relationships don't exist.
While thinking of this concept, I designed a theme where an alien couple is observing their version of love during their lifetime.
They've been together a millennium. That's quite along time. Perhaps they measure their time together as a different concept. A thousand years of love. Now, that's romantic and everlasting.
In preparing my theme for love and romance, I located a beautiful alien couple. He's handsome, and she is beautiful in a surreal sense.
I stared at the photo thinking I've seen them before at the grocers perusing the organic isle! Just a bit of fun. The couple was perfect as representatives of lovers in the universe.
To complete my scene with romantic items, I searched the LIL database and also found other images. Below are the additional images I included. I uploaded all into Canva to take advantage of my Annual Pro Membership Subscription.
