The United Nations Decade of Education for Sustainable Development aims to promote education as a foundation for a more viable society for humankind and to integrate sustainable development into the school education system at all levels. The Decade will also enhance international cooperation for the development and sharing of innovative practices, policies and programs in education for sustainable development.

Organizational culture and sustainable practices are fundamental elements for the generation of alternative solutions to social and environmental problems that depend to a large extent on the university level, since the achievement of such situations also generates a high degree of prestige in educational institutions, since a large part of their reputation depends on their management from an organizational, academic and research point of view.
