George Floyd was a former bouncer who had lost his job during the covid-19 pandemic. He got arrested on may 25 after a convenience store employee called 911 and reported that Floyd bought cigarettes with a $20 counterfeit bill. It didn't take more than 17 minutes for these officers to show up. In a matter of seconds he was pinned down to the floor as one of these officers placed his knee on Floyd's neck with his weight on. Floyd could be heard crying and begging as some of his words were "My neck hurts, my stomach hurts, everything hurts".
The restraint period lasted for 9 minutes 29 seconds and during this period Floyd muttered the words "I can't breathe" 27 times. This phrase marked a revolution in the black life movement and protests.
Here's a video with a breakdown of the occurrence below
Many police officers who subject civilians to similar events often have a history of violence or misconduct, Chauvin is definitely not left out.
Derek Chauvin has a track record of abuse as he's been reported to be a subject of at least 18 separate misconducts and two additional shooting incidents. Of course he had gotten away with most of them but this particular one triggered a unprecedented wave of mass protests against racialism and brutality as the video went viral. It's hard to watch the video and not experience the emotion of anger or pity or both!.
I wouldn't write much about him because he doesn't deserve it. It'll be a rough time in history if he doesn't get karma
The trial, which is expected to last four weeks began on the 29th of march with Chauvin being charged with second-degree unintentional murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter charges.
The defense claimed
"Floyd had died of an heart attack or opioid overdose because he resisted arrest and ingested drugs to conceal them from the police"...
wow, fascinating!
Floyd did not die from a heart attack or an opioid overdose, as the defense has claimed, and that the county medical examiner, who is scheduled to testify, found no evidence of heart injury.
He (Derek Chauvin) put his knees upon his neck and his back, grinding and crushing him, until the very breath, no..., ladies and gentlemen, until the very life was squeezed out of him,"
Attorney, Jerry Blackwell said.
I strongly feel the case of police brutality and racism/racial discrimination in general isn't attributed any reasonable amount of attention. Police violence is a top cause of death for black young men especially in the united states where it's been verified as the sixth leading cause of deaths for young men. You'd often notice how hostile some of these bigots are towards black as the negative stereotypes of black men as violent which has been inherent in history still persists till today.
I've had a grim view of these countries and its definitely not a place I'd want to spend a vacation. absolutely not!. Call me.... I've got friends over there and just imagine what it feels like to be a prisoner in a foreign country.
It's sad, particular races and groups of people who are being pushed to a precipice are still regarded as dangerous. The fact remains, even a cornered mouse will attack and when such situations which were instigated by a variable force occurs, the act is taken to confirm the stereotypical bullsh* with little consideration given to the cause( I promised i wont cuss on a blog but some sitations honestly demand it)
I often believe the world is just too advanced than to believe in the concepts of racial superiority. I see everyone as equal, nothing more nothing less...
