I borrowed some medical equipment from a friend. A stethoscope, a patella hammer, and a measuring tape for my final year exams. Now that the exams were over I thought it would be nice to visit her while dropping them off. so I did that yesterday.
I took a stroll through a road with potholes and a muddy soggy area that demarcated our hostels. The potholes were filled with water because it rained yesterday. When it rains it raises dust particles from the ground and the temperature outside drops. It is what causes those with allergic rhinitis to snort all day.
I particularly love this weather, especially if I have nowhere to go. I just stay at home working or watching YouTube videos.
On this particular day, I had reasons to be out. I didn't want my colleague to lose faith in me so I hustled hard to return the equipment.
On my way back through driveable portions of the pothole-infested road was a car moving with more speed than was necessary. I took to safely so I don't become a victim of the events, just to see a girl being piggybacked into the car.
There was no life on her face. When dust and raises and the temperature drops the way it did, our body takes note of the stimulus. Some people however have an abnormal response to these stimuli. Their bodies produce molecules that make their airways constrict. depriving them of oxygen.
Then came the loud whispers of those passing on the street... "why didn't she come with her inhaler?" "If it was me..." "My sister never leaves her inhaler..."
Some people gave them advice. Like keeping the windows of the car open as then raced to the hospital and some just supported with their space.
I just hope she was fine in the end.
I don't however, see myself judging a situation I don't fully understand and asking unhelpful questions. As much as I feel she should have been with her inhaler. The best I could ever do in that situation would have been to help. What if the inhaler was stolen by some who wanted her to suffer?..
PUT YOURSELF PERFECTLY IN PEOPLE'S SHOES. you can be wrong even when you are convinced you are right.
