Introduction
I kicked off this journey as an entrepreneur a long time ago. Ever since I started, I have gained experience over the years - some pleasant, some ugly. I love entrepreneurship anyway and if given the opportunity to choose between day job and being my own boss, my choices will remain the same. But then, its not a path littered with roses as some ten to believe. Starting off a new business and successfully running it is something as challenging as anything. The road is rough and uneven, but the rewards or perseverance far outweighs whatever hurdles you faced along then way. Therefore, always know that things could go wrong and have a disaster recovery strategy.
Success takes time: Get-rich-quick schemes are everywhere. Gambling and lottery makes it seem as if material success comes at the flick of your fingers. Unfortunately, the reality remains that success does not come overnight. You must work hard and long to build a brand name. It takes time to build a reputation in your business. More than 80% of successful entrepreneurs agree that its a long term project. If overnight success comes as a result of some ingenuity or other special circumstances, very well then. However, always remember that time is required to build a lasting legacy, that is what entrepreneurship is all about.
Entrepreneurship is not a one man business: Yes, you are the founder. You brought all the ideas needed to startup, but you cannot do it all alone. You need to bring in helping hands. You cannot be the marketer, the business developer, and everything. Even as you are just starting, recruit link-minded people who will understand your vision and work with you to realize it. Two is always better than one. So find a way to get and work as team so that you do not suffer burnout somewhere along the line.
Design a workable marketing plan: If you dont have an effective way to communicate value to potential customers, you wont sell. Marketing is an important part of business that needs proper planning. It should not be left to chances. The biggest and most successful organizations take marketing as priority and pour resources into it. As an aspiring or new entrepreneur, you have to fix marketing as part of the topmost agenda. If you get marketing right, then great things can happen quickly. But if you take chances with marketing, then your business may start up on a rocky note.
