Today technology and the world of social networks has changed the way of being and thinking of many people, I know that these are necessary but what happens when you become an addict?
When we talk about addiction, we talk about an obsession or an excessive use of something, for example, we know that there are addictions to drugs, and alcohol, but we also have others of psychological implication, such as addiction to sex, to food, to work, where we can also include addiction to networks.
With respect to the first ones, the subject with leaving the substance that produces addiction has, but when we speak of something beyond as the psychological thing no longer is so easy, already depends much more on the person, to control and to organize its hours to dedicate to the networks.
This addiction is very related to the low self-esteem in some people and therefore to the depression, many people are slaves of the opinions of the others, for example if they receive or not like in their photos or in their histories, many invent a life that does not have alone to mix with certain groups and to be able to excel. But what happens, that after that feeling of happiness that lasts only a few minutes, the depression returns for not being able to make it real.
In short, they are slaves to other people's opinions, and on top of that, they seek to fill a need, a void.
Among the main causes of network addiction we have
1. Loneliness: many times people seek to cover emotional deficiencies in which they live by connecting with other people through facebook or instagram.
2. Self-centeredness: in these networks you see a lot of vanity, people wanting to show their good figure, their good physique and the more you like the better.
3. Having problems communicating with others: this difficulty in communicating with other people can be covered by being on the networks because they do not have to face or perhaps face criticism directly, further strengthen their insecurity.
What are the signs and symptoms that we might see in these people
- Wasting time on the net looking at things that simply won't do your life any good or at least in general.
- It's the first thing you do when you wake up.
- Check your cell phone all the time, including notifications, messages, etc.
- Post absolutely everything you do, what you eat, what you see, where you are, etc.
- They don't like to communicate with others in any way other than behind a screen.
All of this can also affect your daily life. Being glued to a screen all day long can lead to visual disturbances, fatigue, tiredness, stress, and neck and back pain.
You can find people who want to take advantage of others, bullies, scammers, among others, can also influence our productivity because we can not concentrate if we are constantly receiving notifications or messages, this can be detrimental to our work or our daily tasks.
It is important that we become aware of this because it is affecting many people, I know that the Internet today is necessary also many people work with it, but one thing is to use it for something that will benefit us in life that use it only for nonsense.
For example, disabling cell phone notifications can be a good start to limit your use, set up schedules for network usage, try to entertain yourself with other things, do other activities during the day like sports or whatever you like, or simply go offline completely.
I believe that these recommendations can help to reduce this addiction.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR ATTENTION!
