Although, according to experts, the chimpanzee brain has remained the same for 7 million years, the hominin brain has tripled in size from its appearance in East Africa about 2.6 million years ago to about 300,000 years ago when the brain reached its largest size, according to an anthropological study due to the size of the prey they hunted.

According to the studies, everything seems to indicate that hominids played an important role in the extinction of the large species of the Pleistocene megafauna, these large animals provided large amounts of food during a single hunting day so they did not need to use very much their brain to eat.
