We are in an era where people don't have adequate amount of sleep time because of the hustle of life. Everyone is trying to make use of time available to them to make money and have fun. The normal recommended sleep hours for adults by National Sleep Foundation is 7 - 9 hours daily. How many of us do have up to 7 - 9 hours of sleep a day, not that many. But it is very advisable that we start setting aside enough time for ourselves i.e our sleep. Sleep plays a crucial rule to both our physical health and mental health, hence, it is very necessary we give sleep, the attention it deserves. The effects of depriving ourselves of sleep is quite bad, because as we deprive ourselves of sleep, we are making our immune system weak. Well, according to Dr. Nathaniel Watson, co-director of the UW Medicine Sleep Center at Harborview Medical Center;
The results are consistent with studies that show when sleep-deprived people are given a vaccine, there is a lower antibody response and if you expose sleep deprived people to a rhinovirus they are more likely to get the virus. This study provides further evidence of sleep to overall health and well-being particularly to immune health. Source
Apart from the fact that sleep deprivation weakens our immune system, it also affects reproductive system and also reduces our libido level. It affects females menstrual cycle and leptin production, hence, increasing the chances of infertility. Also, studies have shown that sleep deprivation increases the chances of getting stroke, heart attack and other cardiovascular diseases. Well, according Professor Francesco Cappuccio;
If you sleep less than six hours per night and have disturbed sleep you stand a 48% greater chance of developing or dying from heart disease and a 15% greater chance of developing or dying from a stroke. The trend for late nights and early mornings is actually a ticking time bomb for our health so you need to act now to reduce your risk of developing these life-threatening conditions. Source.

Also, studies have shown that oversleeping do cause weight gain and it affects our cognition functions. So, the need to sleep between the recommended hours is advisable. Have a 7 - 9 hours sleep daily, to be healthy. For females trying to conceive, you shouldn't sleep less and above the recommended sleep hours, as studies have shown that females who sleep 7 - 9 hours daily have a higher chance of getting pregnant. Well, according to Dr. Carmelo Sgarlata;
