" Education makes machines that act like men and produces men who act like machines." Erich Fromm
I am going to divide this sentence into two parts.
first part:
"Education makes machines that act like men"
Today we have AI (artificial intelligence) that describes well the capacity of man with a correct education to create machines that facilitate life in all possible ways, with education as a pillar of society it becomes possible to achieve goals beyond the current imagination, from my point of view I believe that a human being without the right amount of education is an easy prey to communist ideologies that provide a utopian vision of life. where the poverty generated by the bad policies of the rulers is the fault of the citizen for not being a good person, Without education people tend to believe in "supreme leaders" like dictators who only seek power and to achieve their macabre goals need to make education a public enemy to be fought.
second part:
"produces men who act like machines"
In this part of the sentence Mr. Fromm tries to mix education with people who have no principles, this kind of person who is not able to differentiate between things that are right and things that are wrong just follows the orders of his superiors does not question the morality of that order basically biological machines in the service of a ruling elite. But what Mr. "Fromm" does not say in his sentence is that countries where education is of poor quality is where these people abound in my country are called "people with social resentments".
in conclusion
education is fundamental to the progress of humanity without education it is easy for the pillars of society to collapse giving way to totalitarian regimes that take advantage of two things, the first is the ignorance of people who do not question the social order and the second is the human condition that turns us into emotional beings that are manipulated using as a decoy an external enemy and an internal one that will be guilty of all the bad things that happen in society.
