Its name derives from the westernized version of the name of its Russian inventor Léon Theremin Термен, it was made in 1920 and patented in 1928.

Léon Theremin was a cellist musician
In 1918 after the Revolution, he was developing an electronic device designed to measure the density of gases when he realized that the sound it produced varied according to the position of his hand.
The design of this instrument consists of a box with two antennas. It is used by moving the hands closer and away from each of the corresponding antennas, the right one is usually straight and vertical.
It is used to control the tone or frequency. The left antenna is horizontal and looped. Used to control the volume level
