Tears In Heaven is the song that Eric Clapton composed in memory of his deceased son, named Conor, who died on March 20, 1991 after accidentally falling from the 53rd floor window of a skyscraper in Manhattan, New York, at the age of four. Clapton composed this ballad 9 months later, becoming a massive success.
Clapton wrote the song with Will Jennings and was initially featured on the soundtrack of the 1992 film Rush, where he won three Grammy Awards in 1993.

Jennings reviewed the lyrics as they had been left by Clapton and his band in the studio. They had no idea it would be a big hit at the time. Jennings would mention years later, "In fact, through my mind I was so involved in the sensitivity of the song that I didn't even think about it. I'm passionate about all the songs I write, but this was different.
Clapton stopped performing it in 2004, as well as the song "My Father's Eyes". He said, "I don't feel the loss so much anymore, which is part of the making of those songs. I really have to connect with the feelings that were there when I wrote them. My life is different now. I'll probably just need to take a break and introduce them from another point of view more separate from the feeling".
