Hi everyone! I was happy to meet Paul Van Haver, also known by his stage name ''Stromae'', at the wax museum in Paris - Musée Grévin. I wasn't aware he is so tall (or maybe I am too small 😁), but he definitely made a good impression with his large smile. As you can see, it was contagious! 🤭
Anyway, I remember his debut back in 2009 with his song ''Alors on dance'':
The song speaks about our personal and professional struggles that make us want to escape from it in various ways, such as having fun while dancing - Alors on dance!
Stromae is originally from Belgium and is both a musician and a songwriter. ''Alors on dance'' is one of the songs he has written and made him known in European countries. He approaches genres such as hip-hop, house, or electronic.
Also, his songs music videos are quite funny and dramatic at the same time. You can imagine this makes an impression!
My favourite song from Stromae is ''Formidable''. In this song he also sings about escaping personal issues, but this time through alcohol. You might think that the song is a depressing one, but in fact, it is very funny. The way Stromae presents his relationship issues is besides dramatic, quite ironic, and tasty to listen to.
The story of the music videos is also a funny one. Stromae pretended he was drunk on the streets of Brussels while the video for the song was filmed with hidden cameras. So, some people recognised him and filmed him with their cellphones and the police stopped him to see if he is fine and one of the cups declared he is a fan.
This music video is also subtitled in English but you can imagine how the irony in the video has much more sense in French.
Another good parody is that in the song ''Papaoutai'' translated ''Where are you dad?'' in which you can see a motionless dad and a frustrated kid. The ambiance is also great with decors from the 1950s. This video was an appreciated one and even appears on IMDB.
The funny thing is that Stromae from the Grévin Wax Museum is the same as in this music video, meaning those who made the wax mannequin used his dress-up style from the ''Papaoutai'' music video. Nice, right?
So, my dear music lovers, hope you enjoyed this post and maybe discovered an interesting singer and songwriter. Given the fact that Stromae is from Belgium and speaks French, I guess he is not that well known by some of you. So, enjoy it!
Best!
