Slippery when wet!
I wasn't really a Bon Jovi fan. I didn't even like their songs all that much and I only knew the most popular ones such as Always, Livin on a Prayer and so on, but that changed when I joined the band I'm currently in.
All the other members were part of a Bon Jovi cover band so, as you may expect, our current setlist has a good number of their songs in it. It was actually a good thing because I learned to like the band and now I see they have some very good songs.
Bon Jovi was formed in 1983 in New Jersey by lead singer Jon Bon Jovi, guitarist Richie Sambora, bassist Alec John Such, keyboard player David Bryan and drummer Tico Torres. It went through a few lineup changes - most notably when Sambora quit the band and was "replaced" by current guitarist Phill X - but it's still going strong and they even released a recent album in 2020, which was named "2020".
I'll share below some of my favorite songs of this band who influenced a whole generation of fans and musicians. I hope you enjoy it!
Wanted dead or alive
This was actually the song that started to change my opinion of the band even though the first time I actually listened to it was while watching the musical "Rock of Ages". I really liked the song and so I went to look for the original version and, to my surprise back then, I found out it was a Bon Jovi song!
Keep the Faith
This one has a funny story behind it. Back when I was in college I had a roommate that would always listen to this song right before an exam. It was his lucky song and the lyrics are pretty fitting to that situation!
Livin' on a Prayer
I just couldn't leave this one out of the list! It's far from being my favorite but it's probably one of the most recognizable songs by Bon Jovi. It doesn't matter where we are playing, we just know that people will sing along to it. A real classic!
Runaway
This was the song that showed me that Bon Jovi can also be heavy! Some people say they were the band that bridged the "gap" between pop and heavy metal and this song is a strong argument in that direction.
This House Is Not For Sale
I found out about this song through my bandmates who suggested that we should add it to our setlist. It is a relatively new song considering the band's career but I think it's already a classic. It's very catchy and it doesn't take long for people to start liking it.
And that's a wrap, people! I hope you enjoyed this short list and let me know what other great Bon Jovi songs you would include!
