Hello there everybody, glad to be back again this time I bring you my top 5 favorite songs of this dreaded 2021 imitation of a year.
“Hello, goodbye. There's a million ways to die. Should've left me way back. Should've left me way back. By the roadside.” Billy Idol - Bitter Taste
I wrote this post following the idea of about favorite songs of 2021.
All the 5 are by legendary rock stars and bands who have been making music since before many of us were even born. Music in these times have certainty lost its level of quality and impact; much of what you listen to cannot even be called music. And the 5 song I present you here are the best of what I consider good music of this year, despite all these bands and singers have given us better in previous years.
5- U2 - Your Song Saved My Life
U2 - Your Song Saved My Life (From Sing 2) - Official Lyric Video
Although this one doesn’t exactly bring anything new to the table, is a short but nice song with a catchy chorus, you can’t stop singing. Included in a soundtrack of an animated movie I am not crazy to watch, this is U2’s first song in three years. They have somewhat lose that magic and status they used to have back in the early 2000s, but at least they continue making nice music. For the moments, let’s enjoy this track.
4 - Iron Maiden - The Writing On The Wall
Iron Maiden – The Writing On The Wall (Official Video)
When you first listen to this one you’re thinking “this must be something by Lynyrd Skynyrd or ZZ Top”, then you listen to Bruce Dickinson’s operatic voice and you instantly realize you are in Maiden territory. This is the band’s first single since 2016, is accompanied by a great video where you see their mascot Eddie as a samurai in a post-apocalyptic world. Ideal for a Sunday morning or a road trip.
3 - AC/DC - Through The Mists Of Time
AC/DC - Through The Mists Of Time (Official Video)
Not as great as 2020’s A Shot in the Dark, but a nice song anyway; much better than all the garbage out there you are forced to tolerate every day. Released in September of this year with a beautiful video where you see some of the greatest art masterpieces of all times together with images of the band. If I could meet these guys I would tell them: Thanks for never changing!
2 - Eric Clapton - This Has Gotta Stop
Eric Clapton - This Has Gotta Stop (Official Music Video)
“Enough is enough”, this rock legend is agree with us that all of this Covid-19 bullshit needs to stop right now. He is one of the many few that has actually done something about it. Apparently this legend suffered severe reactions after taking the AstraZeneca vaccine, which he later regretted, saying in May of this year: “should never have gone near the needle”. That bad experience inspired him to write this cool song with nice guitar solos as only he is able to come up with. I couldn’t stop listening to this one since the first time I heard it and even inspired me to write a post about it. A little light among so much obscurity. Thank you, Eric.
1 - Billy Idol - Bitter Taste
Billy Idol - Bitter Taste (Official Music Video)
At 66 years old this punk rocker is living one of the best revivals in recent years of music. After a couple of decades into obscurity, Billy Idol have come stronger than ever. This cool track was inspired by a motorcycle accident that nearly took Billy’s life in 1990 and left him unable to walk for close to a year. It is his first song in seven years and; reflective and explosive at the same time, is ideal for driving on a Sunday afternoon. Keep snarling, Billy…
