The other day I wrote a post about music where there was a clip of Kiss, one of the oldest and famous rock bands in the world.

A few years ago I watched the reality soap about Gene, Family Jewels. I think it was already quite old for American audiences then, but still quite new in Europe. There, I got to know a whole different side of Gene, anyway. The side of father, showman, actor and (huge) entrepreneur. He makes money out of just about everything. Many people think that he is greedy, already has enough money and only wants more, so a pretty negative opinion. The truth will be somewhere in the middle, but I am convinced that he works very hard for that too. Of course it's easier if you are already famous, and already have a lot of money, because money makes money, it's as simple as that.
But the Family Jewels also convinced me that he really is a guy with his heart in the right place. For example, watch the video below where he addresses soldiers at the Pentagon, he tells that his mother (who had just died at the time) was a victim in German concentration camps, and how it affects him. That tells me something about the man behind the mask.

In one of the episodes of Family Jewels, Gene Simmons was invited by a Dutch boy. Kiss was playing in Amsterdam and the boy wanted an interview with Gene about Gene himself, about his background and he wanted to go to the Anne-Frank house with Gene. What I thought was special anyway is that Gene did this, taking the time to hang out with a guy. The boy's reason was because he was so proud of his grandfather, his grandfather survived the concentration camp during the second world war.
They went to the Anne-Frank house, Gene was very emotional (also because his mother was in the concentration camp) by everything he saw. He was impressed, really impressed. After the visit to the Anne Frank house, they also went to the house of the boy's grandfather, who is still alive, to talk to his grandfather. That is very special. Unfortunately I can't find the whole piece on the internet, but this is a video from an American talk show. I was speechless looking at it...

He is also a real family man. In the series you can see that he is so crazy with his now grown children. Nothing is to crazy. Of course you have to think that they probably didn't get that much from him in their youth. In the past a world tour of 2 years was quite normal, 2 years !!!...And then there were no possibilities that there are now such as internet, skype etc..
What I also never knew is that the Kiss men paint themselves. They are not helped by make-up artists, they do it themselves in the dressing room. Funny right..
In the video below Gene makes up his daughter Sophie as Gene always is on stage. We like to see how the face is created.
On New Year's Eve 2020 Kiss gave a mega concert in Dubai. (online). There was no audience just a few very lucky people who could be there (in the hotel) but otherwise it could only be seen in stream. It was a show that just about surpassed everything else, of course I watched it 'live' at home and it was too bizarre. So big, with so much show, fireworks etc. The video below was the final fireworks.... Bizarre isn't it? There were also a lot of people who said they thought it was too much, but let's be honest. That's the trademark of Kiss and Gene, isn't it? ;)
