Description from Strava:
Well, that was a pleasant little run in the sun. It was gorgeous out there today, and I had been looking forward to getting out to complete a long-ish run this weekend. I was thinking about 20km, but decided that was too far too soon, and so went for just a 15km instead.
I was also thinking about going to parkrun first thing this morning, but promptly slept in, so I guess that was no lol. Instead I decided I would do some of the usual 20km route around the city of Lincoln, but to amend it slightly so it was for a shorter distance.
I also had a bright idea of picking up something from one of the shops in town. My partner likes some 'fruit spread' which she likes to have in sandwiches. She was running low, so was looking for a new tub, and the only shop we have found it in is a tiny little health shop in Lincoln.
It can be bought online, but we refuse to pay £5.00 postage for a £2.00 item!!
We popped into town last weekend but the shop was shut due to Easter. As I was going to be passing through town today, I thought I'd pop in to see if there was any.
So with my running vest on (and some cash) I headed out for the run. It began as usual running out of the village and down the hill...
...and then when I arrived at Lincoln High Street, I turned off to head along Triton Road. When I got to the end of Tritton Road, I took a right and meandered through some side streets to arrive at:
Greens Health Food Shop
Its a tiny little place, and one of the few independent family run shops in Lincoln. I'm genuinely surprised to see that it is still in business, but obviously its found it's niche and is doing something right!
I quickly found the tub of fruit spread I was after, and picked up a flap jack thing, as I totally deserved a treat!
While paying she looked at my shorts and tshirt and asked if I had cycled in to town, and I told her I had run in today. And that then turned into a 15 minute chat on local running routes, and then talking about barefoot running of all things (she was currently reading Born to Run and had recently purchased some Vibram barefoot shoes). It was quite a nice conversation (perhaps that's why they are still in business!)
Fruit Spread acquired, it was time to carry on with the run.
I had decided that I would continue cutting across town until I hit the Water Railway, which is something I have run along on previous runs. I usually join it further up, but to day I was going to hit the start point in Lincoln.
It really was a lovely day out there, and by this point I was starting to get a little bit warm in the sunshine!
After 15 minutes, I arrived at the bridge. This is where I normally come down and join the path along the river, and today I was going to turn right onto it, which would then take me along the bypass and to home
So there you go. A pleasant 15km run in the sun. Again its the furthest run since completing the marathon and everything still feels ok (although I noticed a tightness in my right calf as I was finishing). And I picked up some shopping at the same time which was useful, and also means I don't need to make a 2nd trip into town just to buy stuff.
Now it time for a shower, and then I will crack on with the rest of the day.
I may go for a little 30 minute run tomorrow, but not sure yet. I guess we shall see how my calf feels I guess!
