I just finished a 405.2km running that lasted about 5hh:18mm:0ss !
Back on the hills! 3 of them to be precise. Sunday was the day of doing the Yorkshire 3 Peaks which is 24 miles of running and hiking up 3 peaks in Yorkshire. They’re all marked with a pillar/trig point at the top and all 3 combined gives you a total of about 1500m of elevation.
We set off from Nottingham at 5:30am on a 3 hour drive up to “Gods Country”. Before starting we dropped off 2 bags filled with sandwiches, flapjacks and 2L of water at mile 8 and mile 18 along the route, conveniently 1 after each peak.
The starting + finishing point was Chapel Le Dale. It was supposed to be the hottest day of the year but fortunately it was a bit drizzly and overcast at the start which made the first 2 climbs much more comfortable.
I completely underestimated how tough the climbs and terrain would be. Much of it was un-runnable from either being too steep or the ground just being too dangerous with jagged stones/rocks everywhere. I fell over 4 times, bust my knee open and twisted both ankles but luckily was only hurt for a matter of minutes and was able to run them off each time.
The first stop was just a quick break but the second was a full 40 minutes of lunch, coke and gathering every last bit of motivation to get moving again and get up that last hill. The sun had come out by this point and it was scorching but the views were immense.
What a relief it was to finish. Had a 3.5 hour drive home with a Burger King for dinner from a service station (I was starving and this really tasted like the BEST burger of all time!)
Got a well needed shower and cuppa when I got home. Slept like a log. Woke up very sore, very hungry but wishing I could get right back out there!
