Description from Strava:
I am still getting back into my running after the Christmas break. Henlow parkrun was cancelled yesterday due to it being waterlogged and so I missed that run. Later we went to the Broadway Cinema in Letchworth to see Hamnet. It is about Shakespeare's family life (partly fictionalised) and the trauma of losing a child. Very emotional and good music by Max Richter who I knew when we were kids.
Parts of the country have had snow and very high winds lately, but we have escaped that. It was around freezing this morning, but Strava says it would feel like -6C, so I opted for a warm top and gloves. The paths were mostly fine with a few icy puddles that I could avoid. I did feel ice under my feet when skirting around a big one, but did not slip.
I did a variant on my usual long loop. On the way up to Fairfield I found a bridleway sign on the ground. I am not sure where it is from, but they usually have a big lump of concrete on the bottom. It was fairly quiet around there, but I saw a few other runners out.
On the road from Fairfield to Stotfold some hedges had been cleared for a new cycle path. There is now a fence along there, so I should see more changes there soon.
I looped around Stotfold and it all went quite well with a reasonable pace. I was not feeling too cold and ended up taking my gloves off. The top I have is light, but keeps me warm.
Wildlife I spotted included a black squirrel and a little egret.
Podcasts were Drum with Mike and Eddy talking about their dream gear and Desert Island Discs with Margaret Atwood. She was able to pick a tune from each decade of her life.
Last year I entered the ballot for the Great North Run after seeing a friend do it, but I did not get it. They have another ballot running now, so maybe I still have a chance. I would need to work on longer distances to be ready for that, but I think it is possible.
We were just out in the garden pruning a tree, but it got colder and my hands were frozen, so we did not do much. I feel for anyone who has to work outside at this time of year.
Have a good week and run free!
