Description from Strava:
Today was my slowest run in a long time and I am totally fine with that. I have been reading a bit about heart rate training and the consensus is that heart zone 2 is beneficial as that is when your body can deal with the lactate the muscles generate and adapt to give better endurance. I will will do speed workouts on other runs to build my strength.
On previous long runs I was mostly in zones 3 and 4. Today I had my Garmin watch displaying my heart rate and zone, but I think the latter needs adjusting to match what Strava shows. The watch uses a light on the back to measure my heart rate on my wrist and I have to assume that it is reasonably accurate. Keeping it in zone 2 meant running really slowly compared to what I would usually do and that felt strange, but it got easier as I went on. In the latter half it seemed I could go quicker whilst keeping the rate down, but at times it drifted up. If my heart gets stronger then I should be able to go quicker with less effort.
It was a lovely morning, but not too hot for me. At this pace I was not feeling too drained and could have kept it up for a long time.
On the newish estate at Stotfold I often see ducks by one of the houses and there was a whole mallard family there with at least twelve ducklings.
I did my usual loop and that was enough for today as I had jobs to do in the garden. I will aim for a couple more runs during the week and one of those will focus on speed. I am also trying more exercises at home to get fitter. I am not planning on lots of races, but I just think that I can do better. parkrun is my main way to check that.
Enjoy your Sunday and run free!
