Description from Strava:
A lovely morning for parkrun at Henlow Bridge Lakes. Apparently it was the warmest Remembrance Day ever yesterday, which may show the weather is messed up, but we can make the most of it for now. There was a good turnout of over 100 runners.
I was pushing hard for a good time today. I overtook a few people, but others came past me. I was quick on the second kilometre, but could not keep up that pace. There was a guy just ahead of me on the last lap who I tried to keep up with, but even though I went for it on the finish straight he just beat me. According to the parkrun age categories he is at least 16 years younger than me, so I feel I am doing okay. I got a personal best on that last straight and my best time since April. I really feel I am improving now and hope to break more records soon.
I will also do a quick review of my shoes. I have them listed on Strava as the Venture 5, but they are actually the 6. The soles on those two are completely different. I bought these a few years back as I was finding the Letchworth parkrun really needed trail shoes. I bought them from Sports Direct in Stevenage and they were not too expensive as running shoes go.
I noticed straight away that they are more rigid than some other shoes, but comfortable once on. The laces are quite stiff too. I have had them come undone on a parkrun once, so I need to remember to give the last knot an extra tug to lock them in. I do not think they are particularly waterproof. They would probably be considered a mild trail shoe as the tread is not that deep. When I did the new year Letchworth parkrun I was slipping around on the muddy hill, but they give me a little extra confidence in less challenging conditions and they feel okay when running on tarmac. I think for the Henlow course they are fine and today trail shoes were not essential anyway.
I am pretty happy with these shoes after 320km and they have plenty of life in them yet.
