The impact of education to a nation’s development cannot be overemphasized. It is based on this idea that parents and guardians in Ghan postulated that education is universally recognized as the answer to socio- economic problems of the world. Nations and individuals look up to education to provide a cure for poverty, ignorance, drought, excessive rainfall, mental deficiency, joblessness, bad government, poor communication system, hunger and inadequate shelter among other things.Every parent/guardian in Ghana aspires towards quality of life and social status of their children. Career selection is one of many important choices students will make in determining their future plans.
This decision will impart students in Tamale Sagnarigu District in Northern Region throughout the lives.The choice of career has been a serious problem among Students in Ghana. No matter what one’s age is, the choice of career or desire is an important question for everybody. A lot of students in schools believe that their future is a glorious adventure in which they are bound to succeed. Many of them have the idea that they would be able to work in the public or private establishments as soon as they complete university school education, and it all boils down to parents who fails to see the talent potentials of the students but rather pushing them to a one way course of being in school whilst not investing in the talent of the said student that will have yield a best future for them the parents and the children.
Lawrence is at my right who dreams of becoming a doctor in future, yet he’s make to study more of creative art 🖼 deeming the bright light of a potential future doctor who could have help save lives if he was in the field of scientific studies more advanced of doctoring. The one in the middle is Peter who loves to become an architecture yet he’s being deprived of his drawing skills but put in a science field because the parents wants him to rather be a doctor and to my left is Abraham who love to become a farmer but yet can’t differentiate between a cereal seed and other seeds because his parents dream for him to become a banker with all this we grow up throwing away our potential talents that will have help us in future rather embracing everyday mathematics, IT and so on making us unemployed in the furniture.
How students have seen themselves in a role in which personality is a determining factor may influence a chosen career. Some careers demand that you have the personality to match the qualities of the occupation. For example, sales personnel have to be out-going.Splaver (2016) said “personality” plays an important role in choosing of the right career. A student’s personality must be self-motivated type, as to investigate career possibilities early in their lives, and not the procrastinating type that waits till they are compelled to decide. Students must take seriously the role grades play in limiting opportunities in the future. Splaver went on to say “It is important for you to have a good understanding of yourself, your personality, if you are to make intelligent career plans” (Splaver, 2016, p. 12). Opportunity is the factor that has shaped career choices of students. Opportunity may influence how students have perceived their future in terms of the reasonable probability of a future in particular career fields. The issue of poverty has played an important determining role in the opportunities available to all.
In the words of Bandura (2002), the major part of people‘s life is spent in occupational activities and these pursuits do more than simply provide income for livelihood.
