Growing up if there was one thing our parents were scared of it’s we falling sick. They were so concerned about our physical health. My mom would always tell me to try to eat properly so I don’t fall sick, do not drink dirty water so I don’t have cholera, she was so effective with I and my sibling's physical health. I’m honestly so grateful for her.
I think Mental health has been left behind as many try to take care of their physical health and leave their mental health hanging by the cliff. When we were in high school, we did more physical health education and not mental health. It took a while before they were able to understand that mental health was important as well and they assigned a teacher for it.

In my opinion, I will always say mental health and physical health are intertwined as one’s mental health could affect 80% of his/her physical health. I could use myself as an example.
There was a certain period of my life when I was going through a mental breakdown, I was sad for no reason, I could be in a gathering and just zoom out, I could be sad for days, and wouldn’t feel like talking to anyone.
At first, it was just me going through some mental health crisis more like depression but with time I realized my physical health was also affected I developed an ulcer cause I wasn’t able to eat anything, I had no appetite cause everything felt off to me, I lost weight and I just couldn’t help myself.
When my mom found out she kept saying you have to eat so you will be healthy, but I was able to talk to my cousin about everything and I felt relieved a bit, with time I was able to work on my mental health and that had a massive impact on my physical health.
I always tell people, that you can never see a person who is suffering from depression look so healthy. Sorry to say but I think society has spent more time focusing on one's physical health and not looking back at the mental health of the individual.
If there is one way I can enhance both my physical health and mental health is taking a walk, most times when I feel down and slightly depressed I try to take a walk, this has been helpful cause it doesn’t only make me feel better mentally it also makes me feel physically fit. Also do a few exercises, such as yoga. Like they say yoga helps with the mind and the body.
I also try my best to talk to someone close to me, it helps me relieve myself of so much burden. Hanging out with friends has also been a safe space for me.
When it comes to my physical health I try to eat properly as my mom has always advised. I also think one way I have been able to balance my mental health and physical health is by doing something I love doing, such as reading it takes my mind away from certain things.
I will always let people know that your mental health is as important as your physical health. Disregarding one of them might lead to losing on both ends. So taking care of both can lead to a happier and healthier life. Both matters!
