Love is undoubtedly the most valuable gift we can offer, but I guess the true challenge lies in how we can express it in meaningful ways that resonate with our loved ones. Vals Day is just around the corner and many have already made plans about how they want to celebrate the day with their love ones. People have planned for romantic dinners on the occasion, booked for love events and will buy love gifts all to express their love.
On a day meant for expressing love, people resort to giving material gifts as the primary way to show how much they love or care. People buy cards, chocolates, flowers, and items mostly marked with the love colors of red, making the day beautiful. We feel loved when others express it in action, and those who receive special gifts appreciate them as token of love.
However, is that all there is to love? Can a gift of wine, flowers, or chocolates suddenly make one believe in love? Can the simple expression of 'I love you' cause someone to give in to another, leading to intimate encounters? Even though Valentine's Day is a day of love, it seems the true reason behind the celebration has been twisted. Receiving heartfelt gifts on special days like Valentine's day is good but gifts shouldn't overshadow the true meaning of love.
When it comes to love, it has nothing to do with sex or simply the feelings partners have for each other. Love is deeper, transcending mere emotions people express and desire to consummate it with sex. If engaging in sexual activity with someone defines love, then I suppose prostitutes have always loved all their clients. Today, the true meaning of love seems lost, despite being sung about, spoken of, written about, and depicted in movies.
When you tell someone you love them, it's about a decision you've made to care, show strong affection, be kind, patient, understand, look out for their well-being, keep no record of their wrongs, be with them in all times, and consider them just as yourself. Love is not based on conditions; if you have a reason to love someone, it won't last because the love will fade away when the conditions are not met or no longer exist.
It's important to mean what we say before we say it, rather than simply saying it without meaning it. If people truly understand all about love and genuinely let it reflect in deeds, then the many divorces, heartbreaks, and disappointment could be avoided. Sadly, many things are already messed up in this generation, and the love of many has already become cold.
Nevertheless, there are still people who truly love, those who genuinely care, and good people who always seek the welfare and happiness of others. On Vals Day, we can give everything to mean how much we love but the true meaning of love should reflect in all we do. There is nothing more than love.
