Assalam-o-Alaikum and hello to my #HiveGhana community.
Welcome to another interesting blog. Week 140 of the Hive Ghana community contest has started. All three topics are interesting, but I chose Gender Equality because it is my favourite one.
What is Gender Equality?
Gender equality means that men and women, boys and girls are treated the same by society, and both get equal chances. Girls and boys should be loved equally by their parents. They are both equal, and they should be treated equally in every matter of life.
My Feelings on Gender Equality
I am very clear about my point of view on this topic. Both boys and girls, men and women, should be treated equally. Women are human beings just like men. They can do anything that men can do. In many fields, women can even perform better than men.
I am a father of two daughters and one son. As a father, I truly believe in gender equality and try to practice it in my life. I give my son and daughters equal chances. I love them equally and respect them equally.
My elder daughter, Javeria Javed Khan, is about seven years old and has started going to school. My son, Muhammad Hussain Javed Khan, is about four years old and he has also started going to school. I pay equal attention to the studies of both my children. I never underestimate my daughter. Sometimes, I even give her more importance because I do not want her to ever feel any inferiority complex.
I live in a village, and in my village, most people do not treat their girls equally to boys. They do not give their daughters equal chances for education. They prefer boys over girls. But I am trying to change this mindset and trend by giving equal importance to boys and girls in my village. I wonder why people do not value their daughters. I am one of the few people in my village who celebrated the birth of my daughters and my son equally.
In a country like Pakistan, women are very talented. I believe that if they are given equal opportunities like men, they can do wonders. Our country can progress very fast with their contribution. I think in cities the trend is changing. Women are working in many fields now. But still, in villages, they are mostly limited to only two professions: teaching and medical. Empowering women is the need of the time. The government should take strong steps to educate people and create awareness so that villagers also start educating their daughters.
I believe that if men and women are treated equally and given equal chances, society will grow and progress. This is beneficial for every society. Both men and women are very important pillars of society. They are the backbone of every society, so they should be given equal chances, no matter what.
