Today was a blessed Sunday, and I felt a sense of relief and gratitude as I received the news that my elder sister, Sister Mary, who just recovered from sickness had finally returned to her house in Port Harcourt after a three-month battle with illness.
Sister Mary, a widow and mother of three, had lost her husband in 2023. Her world was turned upside down, and she had to navigate the challenges of raising her children alone. But she is a strong woman, and with the support of our family, she had been managing to hold things together.
That was until she fell ill. When she called me from Port Harcourt, where she base, I could hear the weakness and desperation in her voice. She was struggling to breathe, and her body ached all over. I had to act fast. I asked her to come down to Uyo immediately, and I made arrangements for her to stay with my younger brother, Godwin.
Godwin is a medical laboratory scientist working at the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital (UUTH), and his house is conveniently located close to the hospital.
Godwin took over from there, providing Sister Mary with the care and support she needed. With my financial assistance and Godwin's medical expertise, we were able to get Sister Mary the medical attention she required.
The diagnosis was pneumonia, and the treatment was intense. But Sister Mary was a fighter, and with the help of the medical team, she slowly began to recover. For three months, I was on edge, worrying about Sister Mary's health and wellbeing. But today, October 12th, I received the news that I had been waiting for, Sister Mary was finally back on her feet, and she had returned home to Port Harcourt.
I called her immediately to confirm that she had arrived safely, and her voice was filled with gratitude and relief. "Thank God" she said, her voice trembling with emotion. "I'm finally home with my children. I don't know what l would have done without your support and care."
I smiled, feeling a sense of joy and gratitude. "You're welcome, Sister Mary" I said. "We're just glad to have you back on your feet. Take care of yourself and your children. We love you." As I hung up the phone, I felt thankful for the blessing of family and the power of love and care.
Sister Mary's recovery is a testament to the strength of our bond and the importance of being there for one another in times of need.
